SWL News broadcast, clandestine and pirate information including loggings, QSLs

DP07 Marine Radio (Germany)

DP07 Marine Radio*, broadcasting from Radio 700 in Kall-Krekel, was logged on 21 March 2015. Weather and shipping conditions for the North Sea, Baltic Sea and German coastal ares was announced from 08.00 till 08.30 UTC. A special test transmission on shortwave will be on 22 March on 7.310 and 9.560 kHz.

Reception on 6.005 kHz was (SINPO) 45454 -- good signal strength and audio strength with minor atmospheric noise .Direct reception in Malaysia was negligible.

HERE is how DP07 Coastal Radio sounded at sign-on.

Reception report was emailed on the same day. Reiner at Marine Radio emailed to confirm a QSL would be posted. He stated: "Good morning Timm, Thanks a lot for your reception report. We will send a postcard QSL to your address in Malaysia. May take a while! Mit freundlichem Gruß, Reiner Dietzel."

Radio Europe

Radio Europe* in Italy, transmitting at 100 watts with 1/2 wave antenna,  was logged on 15 February 2015. An all disco broadcast with frequent DJ chatter was monitored from 08.15 to 18.35 UTC. Reception on 6.875 Khz was (SINPO) 23332 -- weak to fair signal strength, fading and atmospheric noise, and occasional utility QRM.

Reception report was emailed on the same day. Two eQSLs from Radio Europe arrived on 21 February 2014.

U-Boat 66 Radio

U-boat 66 Radio* in Italy was logged on 15 February 2015. Station IDs and jingles in English/Italian with English pop/rock songs, including Journey - "More Than A Feeling" and several other tunes, were  monitored 08.30 to 09.00 UTC. Reception on 7.300 kHz was (SINPO) 44334 -- good signal strength, despite some occasional atmospheric noise and fading

Reception report was emailed on 15 February 2015 and eQSL arrived within a few hours. Captain replied with the following message: "Thanks for SWL Radio U-Boat 66 through SDR web again. We (operate) with 40 watt carrier AM only, hande-made Tx and antenna 20 mt long wire half-wave.

Radio Caroline/Rainbow International

Radio Caroline/Rainbow International*, transmitting from western Poland, was logged on 11 February 2015. A lengthy commentary on the conflict in Ukraine and urging peace in the region was heard, between songs by Pussy Riot, Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones, from 18.00 till 18.40 UTC.
Reception on 6.319 kHz was (SINPO) 34343 -- fair signal strength, occasional utility QRM and atmospheric noise, otherwise audible and discernible speech.

On 10 February 2015, Radio Caroline/Rainbow International started broadcasting a programme to highlight Russian aggression in the Ukraine and to seek a peaceful solution. Since Sunday for such purposes, they have been deployed a new 150-watt transmitter, located near Poznan in Poland. Transmissions will last for a few days on the 48 meter band, according to the Radio Caroline blogsite.

Reception report was emailed to Radio Rainbow on the following day.

Atlantic 2000 International

Atlantic 2000 International*, broadcasting via Radio 700 in Kall-Krekel (Germany), was logged on 8 February 2015. Frequent IDs, promos for European radio stations and French and English pop tunes, including Donna Summer - "Hot Stuff", "I'll Never Leave You", Meatloaf - "I'd Do Anything for Love", Olivia Newton-John with ELO - "You Have to Believe in Magic", Joe Crocker - "You Can Leave Your Hat On", Cream - "Born Under a Bad Sign", Elli Golding - "How Long Will I Love You" and Paul McCartney - "Freedom", was observed from 09.00 till 10.00 UTC. Reception on 7.310 kHz was (SINPO) 55555 - excellent in every respect!

Radio AC-DC

Radio AC-DC*, transmitting from the Netherlands, was logged on 13 September 2014.Oldies pop/rock music, including Creedence Clearwater Revival (John Fogerty) - "Keep On Chooglin'", Neil Diamond - "Sweet Caroline" and of course AC-DC, was heard from  18.15 to 18.26 UTC. Station ID in Dutch and English was observed, then transmission ended at 18.26 UTC. Reception on 6.245 kHz was (SINPO) 32443 - fair signal strength with intermittent utility QRM, which created terrible listening conditions.
Reception report was emailed the following day. This eQSL and message was received the following day from Conrad at Radio AC-DC: "Good to see that Radio AC-DC also has listeners on the other side of the world, even (if) it's with help from wdr (web-remote receiver). And what a modern world that you can listen to shortwave on your mobile phone. For now an eQSL, but i will send a paper version this week". Thank you, Conrad!
