The MXA-5000 is a great solution for anyone, boat owner or hobby listener, who needs a dedicated receiver for AIS. Operation was about as simple as you can get, there are no controls and the performance during the review period was excellent. Even the current consumption was very low at just 250mA. Full two-channel operation is a big plus because this will become more important as the service gets busier.
The MXA-5000 – What is it?
The MXA-5000 is a professional quality, dual channel, marine AIS receiver and decoder that has been designed to be incorporated into an existing installation. Basically, it’s a black-box that connects in-line with your existing antenna and does exactly what it says on the pack! There are no controls – you just connect it up and it works extremely well! However, I’m sure you’d like to know a bit more detail, so read on.
