CANARY NEEDS YOUR HELP
No to oil exploration in Canary
Oil industry threatens one of our largest offshore havens, the coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. We need your help to stop it: enter www.savecanarias.org and join the international campaign against oil exploration in deep waters of the Canary Islands.
The Spanish government has granted permits to the oil consortium REPSOL, RWE Dea Energy and Woodside for an unspecified number of deepwater oil exploration off the east coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Both islands are entirely Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO, and the area where you intend to prospect for hydrocarbons in one of the most important in the world for cetaceans.
This decision, as important for the future of the islands, has been adopted unilaterally by the Central Government, despite widespread opposition from local people and institutions of the Canary Islands . Canarian society committed to a sustainable future based on the use of renewable energy, some oil-free plans that threaten their nature, their way of life and economy. An oil spill would be a disaster for the rich marine life, population and water supply for the main economic sectors of both islands. Fishing and tourism.
Your support is crucial to help the islands' society to stop this grave threat .
